Kona Lemon Head PU Series Surfboard
The Lemon Head is a groveller that features the exhaustive design of a longboard outline wrapped in a fish template. Transforming the functionality of a longboard into the size limits of a fish is a feat in itself, and the fact that the Lemon Head performs so well and is a popular model shows its design validity.
The low rocker and wide point pushed right forward provide incredible paddle scoop and additional stability. At the same time, the bat tail offsets the characteristics of having a wider point so far forward by loosening up the engine of the surfboard and assisting with quick rail-to-rail transitions and inside-to-outside rail weight shifts, in order to generate speed and energy off the rails. The modern bottom contour works magic in small to medium waves. The Lemon Head has five fin options, giving you endless fin combos to experiment with and work on. The Lemon Head is great for all surfing conditions and has extra zip on small, mushy days.
Outline:The outline of this board is basically a longboard shape scaled down to a fish size. The rounded nose and wide point pushed slightly forward will give you extra stability in small. sloppy surf. The deck is also domed to provide more volume without detracting from the board's performance. Adding an element like bevelled rails is a powerful detail to keep the rail sensitivity for those rail-to-rail transitions and speed pumps. The additional volume provides additional float under the chest for paddle power.
Rocker:The low rocker provides an easy ride. and the board is a great paddler. The low rocker makes catching waves a cinch. Although it has all the paddle and wave-catching advantages of a flat board. there is enough kick in the nose to reduce nose-diving and make late take-offs doable.
Bottom Contours:A flat entry converts to a generous single concave through the front two-thirds of the board. This flows into a double concave through the fins. which provides additional lift and control.
Tail:The unconventional yet highly functional bat tail immediately engages with the wave. It delivers squirt and drive to counteract any drop in turning radius you might lose from having the wide point further forward. The subtle added lift will also help on bigger days.
